This morning’s Call of Duty: Warzone patch brought some new loot, and nerfed a couple of the most commonly abused weapons. Though this wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes, the update also made it possible to access the bunkers dotted around the Verdansk map. You may recall that a recent patch introduced an ultra-rare Red Access Card as a loot item. Everyone assumed at the time that those cards will be what allows us to enter the locked bunkers, but the cards didn’t do anything when used. With today’s patch, however, the Red Access Cards finally have a function, and - as everyone predicted - they do indeed unlock these bunkers. All except bunker 11, that is, which has its own Easter egg hunt necessary to unlock it. Reddit user AlexShadowMere was among the first players to gain access to one of the bunkers simply by having a Red Access Card.
The UI now shows when you have one of those, and they open any bunker you come across. Inside, the bunker is filled with a tonne of high-tier loot, but seemingly not much else. The video above shows AlexShadowMere and their friends all excited to find out what’s inside. That appears to be the end of it for now, but Infinity Ward is hinting at a bigger surprise. At the end of the blog post detailing today’s patch notes, you can clearly see some sort of coded message that reads, “Number station is Protocol Yellow. Activate system. is inbound. Awaiting correct authorization.” The “redacted” is likely pointing to an event that’ll debut in Season 4, which kicks off June 3. Indeed, Infinity Ward has been teasing some sort of map update related to the bunkers. Is there a subterranean part of the map only accessible through the bunkers, or is there something larger at play here? We won’t find out for certain until the new season kicks off, but you can bet that dataminers are already hard at work trying to piece it all together.
