Patch 7.3 for PUBG dropped earlier today on PC’s live servers. The patch’s biggest addition is bringing back the parachute follow feature, which originally debuted in a February test patch but was removed before it made it onto live servers. Parachute follow works in a similar way to Apex Legends’, in that it allows all players in a squad to essentially be lead by a single teammate, who will direct everyone to their destination. You can cancel out of it at any time and follow your own path, and the tether will be cut if the leader flies into any obstacles like trees. Another major addition in this week’s update is the C4, an explosive throwable. It has a 25 meter effective radius, and its damage can go through cover. Unlike most throwables in PUBG, the C4 is heavy so its throw distance is much shorter. The C4 has a 16-second fuse time, with a warning red light and audible beeping that continues to accelerate until it explodes. The detonation timer begins immediately after the throw, so you can’t use it as a trap. The C4 can stick to surfaces, and you’ll find it as floor loot and in care packages on Erangel, Miramar, Vikendi and Sanhok.
Vehicle damage is getting revamped in 7.3 for the first time in a long while. When a vehicle reaches 0HP, whether through bullet damage or collision, it will no longer immediately explode. Instead, passengers will get about five seconds to escape before it blows up. This doesn’t apply to explosive damage, such as through Red Zones or the new C4. There’s also been a few changes to how damage is calculated on a number of vehicles in the game. The Buggy, Dacia, UAZ, Mirado, Pickup, Rony and Zima all now have three damage zones: the engine at 100%, body at 75% and roof at 50%. In other words, shooting the front of these vehicles will deal the most damage. Another good change is that vehicles will no longer receive massive collision damage when they roll over, which should make some of those situations less dire. Vikendi’s recently added trains are also getting minor updates in the patch. There’s now another route towards the centre of the map that cuts through it vertically. All routes also now have more stops. Trains will now move through two stations before changing direction, and you should find it easier to learn when they arrive/leave thanks to new lights and sounds.
